Hint for the right size

TARIGS MountainRock Backpack – Hiking backpack for dogs

The perfect backpack for small, medium-sized & large dogs up to a maximum of 20 kg. With its four sizes, the dog carrier backpack is suitable for small dog breeds such as Chihuahuas and Yorkshire Terriers, but also for Miniature Pinschers, West Highland White Terriers and Bosten Terriers up to medium-sized dog breeds such as Cocker Spaniels, Basenji and similar dog breeds. The 20 kg MountainRock Backpack is suitable for large dogs such as many Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Spitz and Whippets. The hiking backpack is also ideal for cats. The hiking backpack for dogs from TARIGS.

Designed in Germany & Made in Europe

Some dogs can be put in the backpack immediately and carried around relaxed, others have to get used to the backpack first. Similar to a dog transport box. How much training is necessary depends on the character, age and breed of your dog.

How to get your dog used to the dog carrier backpack:

  1. Exercise your dog physically and mentally. For example with a long hike, a bike tour, etc.
  2. Put your dog in the backpack from above. Reward with treats. Slowly extend the time in the backpack. Tip: You do not have to start running immediately.
  3. When you’re ready, put your dog in the backpack and the backpack on your back. Alternatively, you can wear the backpack at the front. Due to the ergonomics, however, we do not recommend that you carry the backpack for a long time at the front, especially with medium-weight dogs. Tip: First place the backpack on an elevated object, for example a table, on your back.

The dog carrier backpack is available in 2 materials. An extremely light and robust PVC material or a sustainable and durable vegan leather (artificial leather – MADE IN GERMANY).

Both materials are water-repellent and offer the dog good protection. Important: The backpacks are not 100 percent waterproof. This is not possible due to the need for air circulation, which must be ensured. The inside of the rucksack is also made of high-quality, dirt-repellent materials. This means that no matter how wet, dirty or muddy your furry friend is. Simply sit inside and rinse the rucksack with water in the shower or in the garden after the tour and dry it off.

The dog carrier backpack has a window. This is closed with a zipper. The 3D mesh is translucent and air permeable. How to open the window? Open the zipper, roll up the 3D mesh and fasten it on top with the small buckle.

The ergonomically shaped shoulder straps and back panel are padded with 3D mesh. This, in combination with the hip belt and sternum strap, ensures a comfortable fit. Inspired by the large, professional climbing backpacks, the TARIGS MountainRock Backpack has two removable metal bars. These ensure that the back of the backpack remains vertical even under heavy load. This ensures a perfect wearing comfort. The absolute USP of our TARIGS MountainRock Backpack. Another unique feature of our backpack is the intelligent metal frame. Thanks to the stability of the opening, this allows you to simply place your dog in the backpack from above.

There are two mesh pockets on the right side of the dog carrier backpack. (The backpack in Small has one mesh pocket.) The larger pocket is perfect for a large water bottle. The smaller pocket is ideal for poop bags, treats and much more. On the other side, there is a large zipped pocket on the outside. E.g., another water bottle fits in. Inside the backpack is another zipped pocket. You can easily store all important items, such as keys, wallet and much more.

On both sides of the backpack are air holes along the back for ventilation. Air holes and window (made of 3D mesh) ensure good air circulation. The 3D mesh is translucent and air permeable.

The solid and waterproof bottom of the dog backpack is especially important for the comfort of your dog when carrying in a backpack. The stable floor is cushioned about 1 cm thick and ensures that your dog does not “sag”. The strap in the backpack is used to attach and thus secure your dog. However, we always recommend using a harness and attach to the carabiner of the tether. Of course, the dog backpack also has a sturdy handle to carry the backpack.

The first dog carrier backpack for dogs up to 20 kg (maximum load), which allows the dog to sit in a natural position. The 20 kg MountainRock Backpack is suitable for medium to large dogs such as many Australia Shepard, Border Collie, Large Spitz and Whippet.

  • Size (WxHxD): approx. 40 x 70 x 30 cm
  • Window: approx. 40 – 60 cm
  • Backpack weight: approx. 2.9 kg
  • 2 zippered pockets on the hip fins

Please note that due to the size and its load capacity, the dog backpack is only suitable for tall (from 170 cm, depending on the back length) and physically fit people.

The hiking backpack for dogs is equipped with air holes and the window, so that ventilation is provided. If it is very warm outside, it will also be warm in the backpack, regardless of the material. So please pay attention to the “rules”, which otherwise apply on warm days for your dog.

There are numerous situations where a backpack for carrying dogs and cats (hiking backpack for dogs) is surprisingly practical. This includes…

  • Trips by bus or train (for example to the vet)
  • Long walks with puppies / older dogs
  • Extensive hikes
  • Bike / mountain bike tours

and much more.

  • Set the backpack wide.
  • Put your dog inside from above.
  • Attach your dog to the backpack with a harness.
  • Close the backpack.
  • Change seat direction again and again if your dog does not do it by itself. This ensures an ideal weight distribution.
  • The shoulder straps must be adjusted according to the application.

I’ve been using the Vegan Leather MountainRock Backpack for a few weeks now, and I’m really impressed with it. It’s stylish, sustainable, and comfortable to wear. The backpack is made from high-quality vegan leather that looks and feels just like real leather. It’s available in three colors: black, brown, and white. I have the black backpack, and it looks great with everything I wear.

  2. Sarah

I’m so happy with my new TARIGS MountainRock Backpack! It’s made of vegan leather, which is both stylish and sustainable. The backpack is also very well-made and has a ton of space. I’ve been using it for everyday errands, weekend trips, and even hiking. It’s the perfect backpack for any adventure.

  3. Aisling

I purchased this for my 12 year old Pug so he can join me and my German Shepherd on long walks. He is quite happy to sit in the bag when he gets tired and seems quite comfy.

The price of the bag made me hesitate initially but I thought based on the reviews that I would take the chance on it. I’m glad I did as it is quite sturdy and comfortable to wear despite my dog being a chunky 10kg. There wasn’t really another bag on the market that was designed to take a dog that weight which also allowed the dog to sit normally.

The material is a bit squeaky as you walk though and is a little irritating. I tend to keep the flap open so he can stick his head out while we are walking as the webbed material is quite thick so I’d be reluctant to close it on him as it does get quite hot.

The only part of the bag I dislike is the clip on the inside to secure your dog, it’s quite fiddly to open it and there are more user friendly clips available that would make it easier to unclip him when I’m taking him out.

  4. Mellissa Skodova

Well made backpack. Love the material, great for MTB. My dog also feels very comfortable. Overall well recommended.

  5. Ari

The carrier is comfortable for my senior Shiba Inu, 26 lbs, size large, he likes it! I do not regret buying this product. Hiking season starts soon – so I will use this backpack every ( other ) weekend when my dog is with me!

  6. James Falkner

I bought the backpack for my border terrier when he was a puppy. He is now 11 months and the backpack still fits well. We use the backpack (medium) mostly for flying. We have never had a problem and Hensley is comfortable.

  7. Emma Long

This is exactly what I was looking for a lightweight, fashionable, and excellent quality backpack that works for winter and summer. Also, I was looking for a small backpack that my daughter (12y) could carry since is her chihuahua and, this backpack was perfect for her. She felt comfortable all the time. Honestly, this size of backpack was the perfect size for my chihuahua (5 lbs) because she can lay down completely

  8. Larissa Williams

Such a sturdy and beautifully crafted carrier. There is a laptop pocket inside, a base that looks very easy to clean, and a large pocket on the outside for leashes, portable water bottles etc…Would recommend to anyone!

  9. Carol

I bought the backpack for my Shiba Inu. We also have the K9 sports bag. WE moved to Canada and needed a carrying option that is completely closed for the Metro. That’s why I bought the backpack. Now I had to find out that the wearing comfort is also much better. Definitely an investment that has paid off.

  10. Merry Diener

The dog backpack is great! Seems high quality & sturdy. Really good quality! Much better than expected! I am thrilled. My personal price-performance winner. We had tried many backpacks before. The customer service was also excellent. All were sent back. We love the backpack!

  11. Deborah

I used this dog carrier backpack (size medium) to fly my 6 month old border terrier home and it exceeded my expectations! Great carrier and no trouble with the airline dimensions.

  12. Chloe Daniels

My dog is a 14 pound (6.35 kg) terrier mix rescued. He is scared of busses, noise and don’t like bags. People also scare him. We were stuck home! He is older and we live downtown. Without a car. We can reach the park by bike or public transport. At home, he was not thrilled with the backpack either. The training with him was exhausting as always. I stopped it after 3 days. We just put him in the backpack and tried it out. He laid down very quickly and was out of sight. We went to visit a friend using the subway, and he did not want to jump out once arrived. The backpack is now his safe house. Thanks!

  13. Kathryn Matthias

Shipping was much faster than expected. The backpack is top quality, large and comfortable for my chihuahua. It weighs 3.5 kilos and is tiny. He is so comfortable in it that he fell asleep while I was walking around the apartment a bit. I highly recommend it!

  14. Bonnie

All round brilliant bag for my pug

  15. Paula Spedd

This bag is amazing!!! Easy to coax our dog with treats and she loved being on my back while we rode bikes. We got a size L which fit perfectly – she is a 24lb small poodle (tall and very skinny). She felt heavy on my back after a while (half an hour or so) when we were hiking uphill, but this bag is comfortable and super well made so the straps weren’t digging into our anything. And my dog seemed very comfortable the whole time!

  16. Amy Paul

Such a sturdy and beautifully crafted carrier. There is a nifty pocket inside, a firm, cushioned base and a large pocket on the outside for leashes, portable water bottles etc…Would recommend to anyone!

  17. Sarita Mason

Absolutely in love with this backpack! One of my favorite purchases ever. Besides the most obvious how beautiful and well made it is, I live in the city am on my bike and take public transportation when I can’t walk. If I use the backpack, I can bike my dog to all the vet appointments. A big plus for me and my body and exactly what I was looking for. It’s also sturdy and well made, like normal backpack, so I feel more comfortable biking with it than those thin fabric backpack straps you see. God forbid there is an accident, I know it has a certain level of protection that other bags just can’t provide. The backpack also has a top handle to hold it like a regular tote bag. My dog loves it: he loves to watch and is curious. This allows him to see the world. The inside gives him plenty of room to sit or lay down (he weighs 10 pounds). It’s so nice (and also to make him more comfortable) to leave it as another bed in the house for him. The packaging it came in was also nice and stores well. Basically, you get what you pay for and this is worth every penny.

  18. John Lerski

My dog (14 years old, a Westie from a shelter) has more and more difficulty accompanying us on our walks, even in the low mountains. He likes it so much that we can’t decide to go without him. Until the last time when we had to carry him back half the way! Too heavy for him… and for us! So we decided to buy this bag “for safety”, for the next too difficult hikes. We weren’t sure if he would like it at all and only wanted to use it in exceptional cases. It is much more comfortable than we expected, for him as well as for us! He can sit with his head in it without any problems, he can even lie down in it (even if it is a bit tight due to his size), the bottom stays stiff, he is not stressed at all, and he is still very comfortable to carry. It has to be said that he walks better uphill than downhill, so he climbs on all fours and only uses human back transport on the way down when it’s easier for us! If we had known this, we would have bought him much sooner, because this way we can finally go for a walk without having to make sure he still makes the way back.

  19. Janet Bassett

Finally a high quality dog backpack and sturdy enough to safely transport a 9kg terrier. The backpack is wider than other models and the dog can see out not only from the top but also through a side opening. Compared to backpacks I’ve bought before, this one is exceptionally well made and of high quality, which in my view justifies the price. In the front pocket is space for utensils, such as keys, wallet, treats, etc. . Particularly noteworthy are the very well padded carrying straps and the padded back section.

  20. Jeff Dickson

Our golden doodle puppy absolutely loves being in the Tarigs carrier! Sadly I expect she will soon outgrow. But it has proved invaluable for the first few weeks when he needs to be taken around for hiking and biking but cannot go down on the ground. Yes it is a high price, but it’s really worth it and it now means our little pup can join us on even longer and tougher hikes.

  21. Jane

I’m really happy I purchased this bag! My lil pup may be even happier :). He did not like it at first though (he’s claustrophobic) but once he figured out the bag meant adventure, he can’t wait to get back into it. We were able to walk into stores and restaurants without an issue and went on some long hikes. Very comfortable backpack. It’s really roomy; I’m able to carry my dog and many other things! I’m super impressed with the quality.

  22. Mason

Perfect fit and great quality. I had a large for a 2 year french bulldog 13 kg. Leash inside made it easy to quickly secure our dog. Once in the bag, he is happy and comfortable and I am looking forward to lots of rides and walks.

Shipping to Australia was a bit long because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Support was great!

  23. Kathryn Walsh

We love the Tarigs Backpack, my dog has arthritic front legs so is unable to walk far but loves the outdoors . He can now enjoy his walk and then continue on our walk in the backpack. The backpack has great features : comfort for the wearer and sits well on your back. Easy to get the dog into and made of sturdy material.
Extra pockets . Excellent quality product.

  24. High-quality workmanship, thoughtful concept

The backpack is the best transport option I could ever find for our 10 kg dog. Most bags, baskets etc. are only suitable for significantly smaller and lighter dogs.
The workmanship makes an absolutely high-quality impression, all parts seem very well sewn. In addition, the bag looks very good. The concept is very well thought out, in the bag itself there is an inner pocket and outside there are two nets for tansport the leash and for example a water bottle.
Our dog, who otherwise refuses all transport vessels, could be put in the bag without any reason. When putting on and off you have to be a little more careful, since after all the head looks out. We made a test tour immediately on the bike and it was wonderful. The dog showed no nervousness and also accepted food while sitting in the bag.
The backpack sits exceptionally well on the back and is still comfortable even after some time despite the 10kg dog – so it is also suitable for longer bike or hiking tours. Also a big plus: Due to the fact that the backpack is completely lockable, we can transport the dog free of charge on the Deutsche Bahn. In this way, the purchase price is likely to have paid off quickly.

Virkelig en god hunde taske der ikke vejer for meget 👍

  26. Great backpack

This backpack is exactly what I was looking for. Perfect for our Dachshund puppy and so robust that the dog can also grow! It is super comfortable!

  27. Jacqueline

We are absolutely delighted with ours. Our little 3 legged westie Gaela has some arthritic changes now that she is getting older and appreciates a ride sometimes. So impressed with it that I wrote a review for our charity website and there was a lot of interest!

  28. Amazon

The solution: Very robust and easy to carry.
