The Border Terrier, one of the oldest terrier breeds, is a charming and robust dog breed that originally comes from the border region (hence the name “Border”) between England and Scotland. They have an “otter-shaped” head, which is a characteristic feature of the breed. These small terriers were originally bred to hunt foxes and other pests to protect livestock from these predators. Their small size and courageous nature made them ideal for this task. In the meantime, however, they have also developed into popular family dogs. A TARIGS dog backpack for Border Terrier is the perfect travel companion for active families who want to take their four-legged friend with them wherever they go.

Characteristics and temperament

Border Terriers are known for their lively, courageous and friendly nature. They are characterized by their strong bond with people and their remarkable adaptability. Whether in the countryside or in the city, they feel at home as long as they have enough exercise. Their hunting instinct is very pronounced, which is why consistent training and socialization is important. Despite their small size, they are very persistent and love long walks and outdoor activities. They love digging for their lives and are true masters at escaping from gardens.

Care and health

His wiry coat needs regular trimming to maintain its shape and prevent matting. Regular brushing helps to remove loose hair and keep the coat clean.

As an active dog, the Border Terrier needs sufficient daily exercise. Long walks, boisterous outdoor play and dog sports are ideal for satisfying their urge to move. Intelligence toys and search games can also contribute to physical exercise.

Like many breeds, the Border Terrier can be prone to certain health problems, particularly hip dysplasia and eye disease. Regular veterinary examinations are therefore essential to monitor the dog’s health and identify potential problems at an early stage. It is best to choose a breeder who pays attention to the health of the parent animals and has appropriate examinations carried out. A balanced diet and an appropriate weight also contribute to the dog’s health.
