The MountainRock Backpack Original is the foundation of our collection – an adventure-ready essential for owners who value high-performance gear and rugged durability. Designed at our studio in Berlin and handcrafted in the EU, it is built for those who seek the path less traveled. While the high-density PVC material is 100% water-repellent, the integrated 3D mesh windows and ventilation ports are designed to ensure vital airflow, making the backpack highly water-resistant but not hermetically waterproof. Available in four sizes (Small to Extra Large), it securely accommodates dogs up to 20 kg / 44 lbs and is also an excellent choice for cats.

The backpack features a wide, top-loading opening for stress-free placement from above. Once closed, the specialized architecture ensures a stable, secure structure that supports your pet’s natural sitting position. Crafted from an extremely light yet robust PVC, the Original version is specifically designed for the rigors of the outdoors. The interior features high-quality, dirt-repellent materials, allowing you to simply rinse the backpack in the shower or with a garden hose after a muddy trail session. For maximum flexibility, the 3D mesh window can be rolled up and secured with a buckle, providing your dog with an unobstructed view of the horizon.

The 44 lbs (20 kg) Ergonomic Specialist
As the first dog carrier of its kind, the MountainRock Backpack XL is specifically engineered to solve the challenge of transporting larger breeds. While conventional carriers often compromise on posture, our XL model enables a natural, ergonomic sitting position for dogs up to 44 lbs (20 kg).
The XL includes all the premium features of our Original series, plus specialized upgrades for heavy-duty loads: It is equipped with padded hip fins (including zippered pockets) and professional load lifter straps to ensure maximum comfort during high-weight adventures.
Note: Due to its specialized size (27.5″ / 70 cm), we recommend the XL for physically fit individuals over 5’7″ (170 cm).

Care Instructions
- Ultra-Durable Cleaning: High-density PVC is our most robust material – simply rinse off mud, dirt, and dust after your tour and allow to air dry.
- Metal Care: To ensure long-lasting performance, dry metal parts immediately after cleaning or exposure to moisture to prevent corrosion.
- Adventure Ready: Specifically engineered to withstand the rigors of rugged terrain and heavy outdoor use.
Sizes & Versatile Use
- Available Sizes: Choose from 4 sizes (Small to XL), securely carrying pets up to 44 lbs (20 kg). (Note: Looking for a premium look? Sizes Medium & Large are also available in our Vegan Leather edition).
- Multi-Pet Design: Perfectly suitable for both dogs and cats across all size variants.
- Tapered Shape: Wider base and narrower top for a streamlined, sporty silhouette and stable fit.
- Adaptive Ergonomics: The internal frame and SafeSeat base support your pet’s natural posture for maximum comfort.
- Airflow: One ExplorerView window plus side ventilation ports. Zips shut or rolls up and secures for maximum airflow.
- Climate Note: Please note there is no active cooling; the interior temperature naturally follows the outside air. For brachycephalic breeds or extreme heat, we recommend our 3-window models (PeakStone/ROOFPACKER™).
- Security: An integrated safety leash is included for added peace of mind (best used with a harness). For more active or restless pets, we suggest a little practice at home to help them become relaxed passengers, as the leash is not a 100% escape guarantee.

High-quality workmanship, thoughtful concept –
The backpack is the best transport option I could ever find for our 10 kg dog. Most bags, baskets etc. are only suitable for significantly smaller and lighter dogs.
The workmanship makes an absolutely high-quality impression, all parts seem very well sewn. In addition, the bag looks very good. The concept is very well thought out, in the bag itself there is an inner pocket and outside there are two nets for tansport the leash and for example a water bottle.
Our dog, who otherwise refuses all transport vessels, could be put in the bag without any reason. When putting on and off you have to be a little more careful, since after all the head looks out. We made a test tour immediately on the bike and it was wonderful. The dog showed no nervousness and also accepted food while sitting in the bag.
The backpack sits exceptionally well on the back and is still comfortable even after some time despite the 10kg dog – so it is also suitable for longer bike or hiking tours. Also a big plus: Due to the fact that the backpack is completely lockable, we can transport the dog free of charge on the Deutsche Bahn. In this way, the purchase price is likely to have paid off quickly.
